Prenatal Care at the Birth Center
Pregnancy is one of the most memorable times in a mother’s life. Good prenatal care goes a long way in shaping the mother’s pregnancy experience and improving fetal outcomes.
At The Midwife Group Women’s Health and Birth Center, we understand this and go the extra mile to ensure client satisfaction.
Prenatal care at The Midwife Group offers you more than you’d expect. We provide you with the highest quality of care, educating and empowering our clients to make informed decisions about their pregnancy and birth.
How long is each prenatal appointment?
The first prenatal appointment lasts for about 1 hour. It is our first encounter with you, so we do a detailed history and exam to not miss anything.
All other preceding prenatal visits will be 30 minutes long, which include a review of any symptoms, answering any questions you might have, and planning toward the birth of your baby.
During each appointment, we will check the following:
- The mom’s physical health
- Blood pressure
- Weight gain
- Baby’s well-being
- Heart rate
- Growth
- How the mom is feeling emotionally during pregnancy
What is the usual prenatal visit schedule?
After the first appointment, subsequent visits are scheduled every four weeks until 36 weeks of pregnancy, at 38 weeks, and then weekly to assess signs of labor and ensure you are prepared and answer all your questions.
We can adjust the schedule based on mom’s health status. A 2nd or 3rd-time mother who has had a normal pregnancy can see us less often during the initial 4 months.
If it’s not necessary to see the mother often, we can even do telehealth visits to make things more convenient.

How is your care different?
Our care is based off of the Midwifery Model of Care. The Midwifery Model of Care is based on the premise that birth is a normal part of a woman’s life. Midwives see birth as a holistic process that can take place in familiar, comfortable surroundings, such as a home or birth center where decision making is shared between the mother and her caregivers.
